Sunsilk Hydra TL Oui

Boy oh boy, Teddy Charles.  Vous êtes un homme magique.  That means "you are one magic man" en français, at least according to Google Translate (Teddy is Paris-born...I'm not just throwing out random french phrases).  If you read my previous post about Sunsilk's Battle of the Brushes, you know that Sunsilk has teamed up with Teddy Charles (one of the fashion industry's most notable hairstylists) to re-formulate and re-introduce four categories of hair care products.  There are products for the curly-haired ladies (Sunsilk Captivating Curls), those in need of more volume in their life (Sunsilk Daring Volume), pretty gals with dry locks (Sunsilk Hydra TLC), and excessive users of heat (Sunsilk ThermaShine).

As for me, I fall into the "dry locks" category, thanks to years and years...and years...of coloring and heat styling.  Sunsilk so graciously sent me their new product line to try the goods for myself before the Battle of the Brushes event this coming Friday - and I'm so glad they did.  If I'm being honest, I don't know if I would have purchased any of these products prior to being able to sample them.  The verdict?  I can't gush enough over how much I adore this line.  I am pleasantly surprised over just how much I love this line.  I haven't tried the others (yet), mostly because the Hydra TLC gives me such amazing hair and I'm kind of stuck on that right now.  :)  The results:  shiny, smooth, healthy, sleek, (fill in any positive hair adjective here) - it literally feels like I just left my salon.  I am officially converted - and at about $5 a pop, my wallet is quite happy about that switch.

Don't forget...if you live in Indy - come and hang out on Friday at Castleton Square to see the Battle of the Brushes.  Be one of the first 50 to snag a free product...highly recommended by yours truly.

Battle of the Brushes....Coming Soon!

Sunsilk has re-vamped and teamed up with NYC fashionrunway hair stylist Teddy Charles to bring you 10 fabulous new products.  To celebrate this collaboration and spread the love, Sunsilk and Teddy Charles are hitting 8 cities around the U.S.

A "Battle of the Brushes" will ensue at each tour stop, where two top local stylists will go head-to-head in a competition to crown one stylist's look "runway worthy!"  The stylists will be using the new products in Sunsilk's line as their inspiration - and they won't know what those products will be until the competition (very Iron Chef - how fun!).

What's in it for you?  Not only are you guaranteed a little fun in your day, but if you are one of the first 50 shoppers to arrive, you will snag a new Sunsilk product, as well as the chance to have a hair consultation with Teddy and his team!

I will be serving as the "beauty expert" judge in Indianapolis on April 9th - come out and see me!  In addition, stay tuned to Beauty Buddy as Sunsilk has graciously sent some new products my way...I will surely let you know all about them!

Luscious Hair

As if I could possibly love Living Proof any more (I previously reviewed the Straight-making formula here, and the smoothing shampoo/conditioner here) they release this new Full Thickening Cream.  Oddly, I wanted to try this product - even though I have pretty thick hair (okay, okay, frizzy, confused, wavy, etc.) to begin with.  Maybe it was my fantasty slow-mo image of me frolicking in a field of daisies with long, luscious, billowing hair that attracted me to try it...who knows.  Regardless, I tried it.  And loved it.  And continue to love it.  This product did not make my hair go into freakishly huge mode as other volumizing products have done in the past (thank you, Mom, for buying me the wrong formula in high school - another story for another time).  In fact, it really did just make it luscious and full....and super soft to boot!  I also found that it helped define my layers nicely (my hair probably hits about 3 inches below my collar bone and has long layers).  I may have pretended to be in a music video while blow drying my newly full, yet smooth locks - but I guess that's just for me to know.  :)

Make everyone jealous of your beautifully full head of hair by grabbing this product at Sephora - or click here.  $24.00.

Cuckoo for Coconut Craze

At a mere $10/pop for a generously sized bottle, the new Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Hypergloss Shampoos and Conditioners are a fun buy.  I purchased the Coconut Craze, and the fabulous tropical scent has been just what I need as warmer weather gets closer.

The promises:  Shampoo will leave your hair ultra-fresh and ultra-glossy with a superfruit shine complex and Pro-Vitamin B-5.  Conditioner will leave your hair soft and glossy with extra conditioners and another dose of shine complex.

The results:  My hair really does look shiny and feel healthy, not to mention I get great wafts of light coconut scent (which I love) all throughout the day.  A little goes a long way with the shampoo, and the conditioner feels nice and thick which = moisturizing.

Other scents are Apple-tini and Juiced Berry.  Right now, they are 2 for $15.  Get them at Victoria's Secret or click here for the web-site.

Winter Skin/Hair Savers Series

If you're anything like me, really cold weather hurts your skin and/or hair's feelings. It more than likely responds by being super dry, itchy, flaky, and so on. I'm here this week to provide you with some great armor to protect yourself from these little nuisances and give you the ability to go on being the super hot babe you know you are.

We shall begin with your lovely head of hair. The mask by L'oreal you see pictured is one of my faves - and it smells amazing to boot. An exhilarating rosemary-mint greets you when you open this jar of deeply moisturizing hair magic. Leave it on for 3 minutes (a great time to shave those legs) and VOILA! A soft, shiny head of hair is yours. Check it out here (it's also hugely affordable at $8.99). Here are some other products to check out:

1. Dove Intense Damage Therapy Conditioner $7.75 at drugstores

2. Fekkai Advanced Technician Color Care Mask $35 at salons, Sephora, Ulta

3. Aveeno Nourish + Condition Leave-in Treatment $6.99 at drugstores

4. Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Treatment Masque $26 at Aveda and salons

Me = Living Proof that this stuff WORKS!

Previously, I posted on the most effective frizz reducer I've ever used here...and as if that wasn't enough to make me one happy consumer, Living Proof has gone and introduced Shampoo and Conditioner.

A moment of honesty: I was a teeeeeeeny tiny bit skeptical that this would not weigh my hair down and/or make my hair look greasy when I tried this. To my great pleasure (and surprise), these products did the exact opposite. What I've really recognized about the Living Proof line is that the products genuinely just take away that nasty frizz and leave you with gorgeously soft, shiny, and smooth hair!

I am totally sold and so happy with this line...if you have frizz issues I would absolutely recommend trying any of their products. Check them out here.

Here's to great hair days.....................XOXO, Tiff.

Keep on Moroccan me, Baby

I have a confession, dear readers. I have totally and completely been holding out on you on this one. I do assure you, however, that it has been of the accidental nature and will not happen again.

Now that I have that out of the way...let's talk about maybe one of the best hair products I've ever used. I have been using this for quite a while now (as in, for about 8 months) and LOVE it. I have very thick, confused (wavy, curly, frizzy) hair - but this oil does the exact opposite of weighing it down as you might think oil would. When I rub a dime-sized amount through my damp hair before blow-drying, I am left with shiny, soft, health-looking hair. I also use it as a finisher to tame "new growth" and enhance shine.

I have never heard a bad thing about this product, no matter what your hair type.

Oh, and you know how I've been using it for 8 months? Still using the same bottle. It lasts FOREVER. And smells great, too.

Check it out here.

Excited for Fall Reason #9

Returning health to that summer-wrought head of hair. While I haven't tried the shampoo and conditioner in this line, I can tell you that the 3-Minute Undo is an amazing little (cheap!!!) product. This hair treatment uses 3 fruit oils (olive, avocado, and shea) to restore health and moisture to dry and damaged hair.
I LOVE the results - not only does this stuff smell and feel fabulous, but my hair is soft, shiny, and bouncy. I am a walking hair commercial. At least in my own little world, and that's all that matters, right?
Find these at your local drug-store or mass retailer.

And Then I Saw No Frizz...Now I'm a Believer

This product has most definitely earned a permanent spot in my beauty closet. I have tried so so very many de-frizzing products over the years, that I eventually gave up on finding one that actually worked...and turned into a frizz-free cynic to boot. I just kind of resigned to the fact that I am stuck with a huge mane of frizzy hair, post-blow- drying, that absolutely requires a flat-iron to look decent enough to walk out the door. And woof, you don't even want to see my hair after air-drying.

While I'll admit I haven't tried the air-dry yet (it is truly frightening), the results I've seen from this product after blow-drying are phenomenal. My hair is so much smoother - and I have cut my flat-ironing time down by over 50% (I still need to iron out some kinks here and there, plus I have bangs). I use the "straight-making" formula for medium to thick hair. They also have formulas for fine to medium, and thick to coarse - as well as formulas for curly hair.

This product was developed by a scientist at MIT - as if I didn't think they were geniuses already.

Get more info about this product here - a 4 oz. bottle will cost you $24.

A Really Great Deal

I came across this awesome deal at Splash Salon (off of 86th street, near DSW)...they are doing a promotion right now called "Double Feature Wednesdays;" apparently, you can grab a friend who needs a hair cut/color/highlight/eyebrow wax/whatever and you get both services for the price of one. What a great way to cut down beautifying costs!

Happy Grooming.......................XOXO, Tiff

Sulfate Free or Not Sulfate Free - That is the Question.

First and foremost, let me apologize for being M.I.A...my real job has been keeping me busy and tired. However, I cannot fail the 10 people (maybe) who read this, so giddy-up.

You may or may not have noticed the recent influx of sulfate-free hair care on the market...here is the low-down on why you may want to pay closer attention.

As it turns out, sulfates (you'll see it as "sodium laureth sulfate" on the bottle) are detergents responsible for the ridiculous lather you get from shampoo. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good lather, but these little guys can really wreak havoc on those amazing highlights you just paid for. While they really do clean well and are great at dissolving dirt, oil, etc. (it IS a detergent, after all), they can potentially dry out your hair and skin and also cause professional color to fade.

These are not harmful in any way, but how annoying is it to pay uber-bucks for a killer color job only to have it fade quickly? To give your hair color longer life and care, look for a sulfate-free shampoo. Conditioners should already be free of sulfates (conditioner should NOT be foaming).

A great drug-store find is a line by Organix. Every product is natural and sulfate-free...and they smell AMAZING. I am currently using Coconut Milk - nourishing blend - and I have to say that my hair is super shiny and soft, healthy, and my color/highlights combo still looks great. I'm sold. They are about $6 a pop - a great price.

Check out the Organix website here...wait until you see all of the amazing scents available!

You know you want to try some......XOXO, Tiff.

Mission: Beautiful Hair

Okay, so I have to admit that I am not brand loyal when it comes to, well, pretty much any product out there on the market...sorry brands. However, when it comes to a shampoo and conditioner I think I have been transformed into a one brand gal. The brand is...drum roll please..Ojon. Their products are absolutely wonderful. I have been using Ojon since November of last year and can totally tell the difference in the texture and the sheen of my hair. Did I mention that I absolutely love it!!! Being a girl that goes to the salon and gets highlights (I mean, yes this is my natural color) I need a shampoo and conditioner that is actually going to live up to the fancy description on the bottle. And, believe me, it does.
Not only do the products give you the beautiful hair that you have always wanted, but it comes with a pretty cool background story as well. Ojon is inspired by rare palm nut oil found in the tropical Ojon tree. For over 500 years the people of the Tawira village, living along the coast of Honduras, have been using this rich Ojon oil as their secret to their beautiful hair and skin. This unique tree grows only in the rainforest of the Mosquitia region of Central America. Interesting enough, the Miskito Indians are referred to as Tawira Indians, which means “the people of beautiful hair”. And, if you like companies that like to give back, Ojon has also set up a partnership with the Tawira village to help them with rebuilding their village without trying to modernize them into a totally different society.
Because I was a little skeptical at first (mostly because of the price point), I actually bought the travel sizes at Sephora first, then quickly went back to buy the big guys. Totally Worth It!
If you would like to check out Ojon you can do so at Sephora or just visit Ojon (where you can also read more about the company and their products).

Enjoy!
